Clare began playing the bassoon in Auckland, New Zealand. After an initial career as a primary school teacher, she moved to Australia in the early 1980s to study bassoon with Peter Musson and Gordon Skinner. She was a bassoonist with the Victorian Wind Quintet in Bendigo before moving back to Sydney to freelance and teach.

Clare has over 25 years of experience teaching bassoon both privately and in schools and still plays with local orchestras and chamber ensembles. She currently teaches both classroom music and bassoon at Sydney Grammar School where she has had enormous success starting young players on the fagottino and nurturing her students from beginner to diploma level.

Sadly Clare passed away on the 23rd March 2022.
