American-Australian oboist Briana Leaman, PhD, has performed and taught throughout North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. She holds degrees from the University of South Carolina (USA) (BMus(Perf.)), the Haute École des Arts du Rhin (FR) (MMus(Perf.)), and the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, the University of Melbourne (PhD, Mus.Perf.).
In addition to her orchestral work with groups such as Melbourne Chamber Orchestra, Victorian Opera, and Orchestra Victoria, Briana is an enthusiastic soloist and chamber musician. In 2023, she performed Graeme Koehne’s oboe concerto, In-Flight Entertainment, to a sold-out crowd under the baton of Ingrid Martin for the Australian Doctors Orchestra’s 30th Anniversary Concert. She performs frequently in collaboration with pianist Yasmin Rowe—including a 2024 concert and masterclass tour of Regional Victoria sponsored by Buffet-Crampon/Rigtoutat—and with saxophonist Joseph Lallo as Duo Obax. Duo Obax’s ABC Classic recording of Luke Severn’s and other lines with Yasmin Rowe has been featured on ABC Classic FM and on the ‘Best of Australian Classical Music’ playlist, and can be found on all major streaming platforms.
Briana is the oboe teacher at Loreto Mandeville Hall, and is an examiner for AMEB Victoria. She is proud to be a Rigoutat Artist and plays on a model ‘J’ oboe.
